Teaching Artist

$35.00 per hour

Job Description

The Santa Paula Art Museum is looking for an enthusiastic individual to instruct onsite at the Piru and/or Santa Paula Club location of Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley (applicants may apply to teach at one or both sites). This part-time position requires one hour of onsite instructional time per week, and a once-a-month in-person meeting at the Santa Paula Art Museum with the Museum’s Teaching Artist Manager (a total of 9 hours per month per site).

The Teaching Artist will be responsible for leading art lessons and teaching club members how to use a variety of art mediums, including (but not limited to) paint, pastel, pencil, and clay. The Teaching Artist will provide guidance and positive feedback, help students with their artwork, and encourage their creativity. The individual will also be responsible for documenting and photographing club members’ art projects. The Teaching Artist will be required to attend a monthly meeting with the Museum’s Teaching Artist Manager to review and develop the art curriculum. 

Requirements

Candidate must have completed at least one year of higher education (bachelor’s or associate degree program). This position requires a strong knowledge of art history, art techniques, and art media. Experience teaching elementary and/or secondary-level students is preferred. This position requires a background check (paid for by the Museum).
