Artist Biography

Abraham Weiner was a painter known for his landscapes and still lifes in watercolor, oil, and pastel.

Born in Vinnitza, Russia, on March 30, 1897, Weiner immigrated to the United States at a young age. He studied at the University of Michigan and the Studio School of Art in Chicago. After living in Chicago for several years, he moved to Los Angeles sometime before 1943, where he worked as a set designer for 20th Century Fox.

Weiner exhibited widely during the 1940s, earning both solo and group shows. His work was shown at the Stendahl Gallery (1942), the San Francisco Museum of Art (solo, 1943), UCLA (solo, 1943), the Denver Museum (1944, 1945), and the Oakland Art Gallery (1944–1946). Other exhibitions included the California Water Color Society (1944), the Foundation of Western Art in Los Angeles (1944), the Glendale Art Association (1945, award), the Los Angeles Art Association (1945), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (solo, 1945), and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (solo, 1946).

He died in Los Angeles on May 7, 1967.
