Explore the beautiful tradition of figure drawing with teaching artist Rafael Perea de la Cabada! Students will learn how to capture the human form by composing, simplifying, and interpreting the figure with a mixture of classical and abstract approaches in charcoal, graphite, and pastel. Each class will include lecture, demos, and feedback. Students will draw from a professional nude figure model.

This three-part course will be taught on three consecutive Wednesdays: January 14, January 21, and January 28, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This class is appropriate for everyone ages 18 and over. The cost of the three-part course is $130.00 per person. All skill levels are welcome and all materials are provided. Preregistration is required and space is limited. The course will be held inside the Cole Creativity Center located at 123 N 10th St, Santa Paula, CA. Free parking is available directly behind the building and students may enter through the front or back door.

About Our Teaching Artist:

Rafael Perea de la Cabada is an award-winning artist born in Mexico City, who has lived in California since 1987. Perea earned his degree from the National School of Painting, Sculpture, and Printmaking

in Mexico City and later completed his M.F.A. at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums across Southern California, including the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Contemporary Arts Forum, Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art, The Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, and the Hunsaker-Schlesinger Gallery in Santa Monica. Additionally, he has shown his work in New York, Washington, Tennessee, Texas, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Croatia, Spain, and Germany. His artwork is part of numerous public and private collections in Mexico, Switzerland, Ireland, France, Germany, and the United States.

Rafael has taught Drawing in the Fine Arts Department at Santa Barbara City College and has served as a Master Artist for mentorship programs, master classes, and mural projects with the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, The Santa Paula Art Museum, and The Arts Fund. In 2010, he was awarded a significant Public Art Commission with designer Richard Irvine for the West Beach Pedestrian Improvement Project in Santa Barbara. He is also the Founding Art Director for The Animal Museum in Los Angeles.
