Join us for Free Family Day inside SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center on Sunday, September 6, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Our September event invites families to learn about some of our region's earliest artistic traditions and the Indigenous cultures of the American Southwest through hands-on art activities designed for all ages. Guests will explore Indigenous materials, symbols, and techniques while creating paper cup basketry, shell wall hangings, beaded necklaces, and more. Admission is free, all are welcome, and all materials are provided.

During the event, special guest artist Alan Salazar—a traditional storyteller, Native educator, and Tribal Elder of the Fernandeño Tataviam and Ventureño Chumash Tribes—will demonstrate how the Chumash created rock paintings using natural pigments. At 1:00 p.m., he will share traditional Native American stories that connect us to the land, history, and values of the Chumash and Tataviam peoples.

Fun fact: Santa Paula is home to three museums, all of which offer free admission on the first Sunday of every month. Make a day of it and visit the Santa Paula Art Museum, the Museum of Ventura County’s Agriculture Museum, and the Aviation Museum of Santa Paula.
