Join us on Saturday, November 14, 2026, for the premiere of Looking Back and Looking Forward, a solo exhibition by Tehachapi artist Jim Wilson. Throughout a lifetime of painting realistic imagery, Wilson has also been drawn to the geometric beauty of circles, arcs, and lines. Within these simplified forms, a quiet sense of serenity emerges. Many of Wilson’s works combine elements of both geometry and realism, and his exhibition reflects this eclectic approach he finds so fulfilling.
Admission to the premiere party is $5 for SPAM members and $10 for non-members. Looking Back and Looking Forward will be on view from November 14, 2026, to March 7, 2027.
More About Jim Wilson:
A fifth-generation Californian, Jim Wilson was born in Los Angeles and has lived in Tehachapi for the past twenty years. After earning a BFA from California State University, Northridge, the artist entered the teaching profession while continuing to paint and sell commissioned works.
Working primary in acrylic, Wilson’s influences range from the photorealists of the 1960s and 1970s to the Bauhaus School—an expansive spectrum that is reflected throughout his work. Some paintings are rooted in realism, others explore geometric abstraction, and many combine both approaches.
Now retired from teaching, the artist devotes more time to painting and continues to look forward to “the next one.”
