Premiere Party: John Galan's "Remedios (Remedies)"

Meet Conejo Valley artist John Galan at the premiere of his solo exhibition, Remedios (Remedies), on Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. With artworks rich in symbolism and vibrant hues inspired by his Mexican heritage, Galan's exhibit is an honest exploration of the connections between health, healing, nature, and tradition. Admission to the premiere is $5 for SPAM members, and $10 for non-members. Wine, beer, and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Remedios (Remedies) will be on view at the Santa Paula Art Museum from September 17, 2022, to January 8, 2023.

John Galan is a contemporary Chicano artist whose work focuses on the inextricable connection between humankind and the natural world. In his most recent Organ Series, he combines imagery from contemporary Chicanx culture and cuisine with the universal archetypes of the heart, lungs, and brain to manifest symbols of hope and resilience. Galan’s work has been exhibited internationally, including the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Hollywood Forever Cemetery’s Dia de los Muertos Festival. He has fulfilled artist residencies in Portugal, New York, Tasmania, New Zealand, Australia, and Samoa. Galan is also a dedicated and passionate high school art teacher.
