Artist Biography

Redmond Stephens Wright was born in Chicago in 1903. An accomplished etcher, portrait painter, and muralist, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and Harvard University before continuing his education in Paris under Édouard Léon.

During the 1930s, Wright was active in both Chicago and New York City before settling permanently in Pasadena, California, in 1937. There he became a respected art educator, teaching at the Pasadena Art Institute and the San Gabriel Valley Art Center while continuing his own artistic practice.

Wright's work is represented in the collections of the Library of Congress, Crocker Art Museum, and Harvard Alumni Association. He died in Cathedral City, California, in 1991.
