Experience the beauty of Southern California through the eyes of Thousand Oaks artist Harvey Cusworth in “Visions of Conejo Valley and the Malibu Coast,” which premieres Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Santa Paula Art Museum. The solo exhibition showcases vibrant landscapes and cityscapes that celebrate the rich interplay of color, light, and shadow. Inspired by the Conejo Valley and the Malibu coastline, Cusworth’s impressionistic paintings evoke the magic of early mornings and golden afternoons. With expressive brushwork and dynamic palettes, each piece invites viewers to pause, look closer, and rediscover the subtle brilliance and beauty of our everyday environment.
Admission to the premiere party is $5 for SPAM Members and $10 for non-members. Hors d’oeuvres and light refreshments will be served. All of the artworks will be available for purchase.
“Visions of Conejo Valley and the Malibu Coast” will be on view from September 13, 2025, to January 11, 2026.
More About Harvey:
Harvey Cusworth is a longtime artist who specializes in impressionistic realism. Primarily painting in oil, he tries to capture the colors revealed through California's unique light. Among his favorite subject matters are the landscapes of the Santa Monica Mountains. His paintings reflect images from impressive park vistas to the dynamic Pacific coastline.
Harvey has a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and a Masters of Fine Arts Degree, with a painting and drawing emphasis, from California State University, Long Beach. He also worked an architectural glass artist specializing in glass carving. His glass work was exhibited at the Pacific Design Center in Beverly Hills as well as the former Cinerama in Hollywood. His paintings have won numerous awards at juried shows, including Best of Show in the Foundation for Education of the Arts exhibition.
During his career, Cusworth has also taught art in both public and private settings. He recently retired as a high school painting and drawing instructor focusing on AP studio art courses. Courses and techniques taught to students included acrylic and oil painting, pastels, drawing media, color pencils, and collage.
